Eastern Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius) is a resilient, fast-growing native shrub prized for its four-season ornamental appeal. Reaching 3 to 10 feet tall and wide with a graceful, arching habit, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts easily to dry, rocky, clay, or wet soils (USDA Zones 2–8). Spring brings showy white-to-pink flower clusters that attract pollinators, followed by bright red summer fruit and distinctive peeling bark that provides rich texture throughout winter. Highly low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established, it is ideal for native hedges, rain gardens, and erosion control.
