Community Food Tree Project
The GreenWorks' Community Food Tree Project works in partnership with communities located within Buncombe County that lack access to fresh, healthy food options. In addition to planting single food-producing trees, we are also installing community orchards on public land to make even more food available to the community. These orchards will be available for the immediate communities consumption first.
Sand Hill Community Orchard
Established May 2013 with funding provided by Buncombe County Parks & Recreation Grant. This orchard contains 70 fruit and nut trees. Project made possible through a generous grant from TD Bank, the National Arbor Day Foundation and DoubleTree Hotel. This orchard contains 68 fruit and nut trees and a pollinator patch.
Hillcrest Community Orchard
Funded by TD Bank through the National Arbor Day Foundation. This orchard contains 30 Apple trees, a pollinator habitat and a Blueberry patch.
Southside Community Orchard
Funding provided by TD Bank. This orchard contains 15 Apple and 3 Pawpaw trees as well as a pollinator garden.
Michael's Orchard
Located at Bent Creek Community Park, this orchard was funded by Pisgah Plants Nursery and the Bent Creek Neighborhood Association. This orchard contains 15 Apple and Pear trees.
Burton Community Orchard
Funding provided by Asheville GreenWorks. This orchard contains 10 Apple trees.
Hall Fletcher Elementary Orchard
Funding provided by National Arbor Day Foundation through Warren Wilson College. This orchard contains 6 Apples and 4 Pear trees.
