Looking for a few good "Trash Talkers"

5/11/2014

We're looking for a few volunteers to help out with our Lunchroom Composting Program. Currently we have 9 schools in the area that have made the switch to 100% composting during breakfast and lunch.

The program saves the schools money in trash dumpster fees and educates students on advanced waste reduction. Our goal is to have all 52 schools in Buncombe County on the program by 2016. To help us meet that goal we need volunteers that are willing to go into their local school to reinforce the program.

Participating Schools:

Hall Fletcher Elementary
Claxton Elementary
Vance Elementary
Isaac Dickson Elementary
Ira B Jones Elementary
Evergreen Charter School
Asheville High School
Mills River Elementary
Enka Middle School

Trash Talkin'

Presently, most of the schools in the area depend on styrofoam and plastic to help cut costs and speed up the lunchroom experience. With the commercial composting program, we're able to reduce the amount of items streaming into the landfill by directing the students to sort their left-overs into the triple cans. Recycling, Landfill and Compost

The learning curve for trash talkin' is minimal. We go by Danny's Dumpster rule of composting "If it was ever alive, it can be composted" But what goes where?
