![]() When you're running 40+ river cleanups throughout the summer months, you need a team of smart, tough and dependable Interns to make it happen. Since 1973, we've been privileged to house the best of the best. Students, volunteers and individuals alike drawn to make a visible difference in their local community. Through that process giving their time to increase their skill set while improving the very way we operate. This summer's class is no exception. Gabe O'Friel I'm a recent college graduate, an avid skateboarder, and I'm obsessed with growing plants and fungi. I have a strong passion for the environment and I'm looking forward to learning more about how environmental nonprofits work through this internship. I believe that education is the most powerful tool for combatting climate change and other environmental issues, so I'm also hoping to learn more about how to be an effective educator this summer. Chris Simmons I'm originally from Jacksonville, NC, and in 2013 my family and I moved to Asheville. I'm a rising senior at The University of North Carolina at Asheville, and I currently study Ecology and Environmental Biology. When I'm not at school you'll find me hiking trails, biking, or backcountry camping. Also, I have a rarely known guilty pleasure for reading classic literature. I look forward to restoring our local rivers and landscapes to the way they are meant to be seen, to teaching others, even if they are toddlers, about nature, and most of all, I look forward to seeing others gaining priceless happiness just from being outside. Here's to a great summer! Amanda Lott I'm a rising senior at Montreat College. I am studying Environmental science. I am passionate about helping the environment and teaching others. One day I aspire to be a wildlife biologist. Shea Leek I am a senior at the University of North Carolina Asheville. I became passionate about conserving our natural heritage after my first environmental course in college, and my internship at Asheville GreenWorks is helping myself, as well as the Asheville community, do just that. All of the GreenWorks supervisors, interns, and volunteers have inspired me to do more for our surrounding environment and make our home a beautiful, clean place to live. I am excited to be spending my summer with these amazing individuals. Annalise Mangone Helping the environment has always been a passion of mine. While I may only be 17, I am the head of my school's environmental club. When I learned about Asheville GreenWorks internship program I jumped at the opportunity. I hope that this internship will teach me more about nonprofit groups, the environment, and how to protect the world around us, so that I can learn and hopefully teach others how to live sustainably.
