For many college students, March means Spring Break. No more classes, time for some relaxation, maybe even a trip to the beach. But for a few brave souls, it meant getting their hands dirty while engaging in nonprofit work across Asheville. We partnered with the Timothy Project to host troupes of college students from Concord University, Montclair State, and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. These Alternative Spring Break service groups helped us tackle projects ranging from roadside clean-up, to tree plantings, to pulling fallen trees up out of rivers, to invasive plant identification with elementary students. Their enthusiasm and energy was a great way to kick off the Spring season. Here is a link to a blog written by the UWM group about their time in Asheville.
