September 16th - Eric Bradford
The 27th Annual NC Big Sweep, river and roadside cleanup was a huge success this year. With 168 volunteers and 64 boats taking on 25 miles of river. Volunteers paddled the Mills, Swannanoa and French Broad Rivers to remove plastics, tires and trash. Altogether we filled 3 trash dumpsters with trash and ended up with 70 tires ready to be recycled.
How do we do it?
With lots of friends..
Thanks to River Link and Western North Carolina Alliance for helping us manage and organize this monster cleanup. Thanks to Zen Tubing for providing shuttles, put-ins and the after party location. To Asheville Outdoor Center for providing shuttles, gear, boats and support. To French Broad River Academy for providing shuttles and support.
To University of North Carolina at Asheville, Warren Wilson College and Blue Ridge Community College for lending out their canoes and volunteers for the day. To Highland Brewing, Mellow Mushroom Asheville and Sierra Nevada Brewing for providing food and beverages for the after cleanup party. To Griffin Waste, Henderson County and Buncombe County for providing dumpsters and after cleanup support.
Thank You to all of the volunteers that came out! Without you, we couldn't keep the French Broad and surrounding rivers safe and enjoyable!
