Micah Azalea

Watershed Outreach Coordinator, Asheville GreenWorks

Meditative gardener, AT hiker, lover of lichen, and karaoke pro

Micah Azalea grew up canoeing and swimming the lakes and rivers of the midwest. From an early age they expressed a love and fascination for the natural environment.

Micah studied Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management at Northern Michigan University with a focus in Outdoor education. They grew up visiting their Gramma in Western North Carolina, fell in love with the area, and moved to Asheville in 2013. Since then, Micah has worked as an Instructor for wilderness therapy programs and led backpacking and canoeing courses for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).

In 2019 they were hired as the volunteer manager for MANNA FoodBank. After two years with MANNA, Micah left to pursue their dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail. They thru-hiked the AT and most of the Pacific Crest Trail while raising funds for MANNA FoodBank.

If Micah is not on the river or in the woods you can find them singing karaoke at a local Asheville establishment.

We are overflowing with excitement to welcome Micah to the GreenWorks team! Micah brings a wealth of experience in outdoor leadership, community engagement, and environmental stewardship—qualities that align perfectly with our mission. As Watershed Outreach Coordinator, Micah will lead programs that inspire community members to care for our rivers, organize cleanups, and educate future generations about the importance of healthy waterways.

Their passion for connecting people to the outdoors and fostering a sense of responsibility for the natural world will be a tremendous asset to Asheville GreenWorks. We can’t wait to see the creativity, energy, and heart they bring to this role.

Please join us in giving Micah a warm welcome as they dive into this important work for our rivers and community!
