Asheville GreenWorks Strengthens Climate Resiliency Efforts with Expanded Community Partnership

Asheville GreenWorks is proud to announce an expanded partnership with local renewable energy developer and asset owner-operator Pine Gate Renewables. This collaboration will enhance two of GreenWorks’ cornerstone initiatives—urban forestry and litter prevention—at a time when building climate resilience is more urgent than ever in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Pine Gate Renewables is deepening its support of GreenWorks’ mission by pledging to fund the purchase and distribution 1,000 native trees through GreenWorks’ Urban Forestry Program, partner on volunteer cleanup efforts twice a month in and around the River Arts District, and provide a 50% matching donation to help fund a full-time Watershed Outreach Coordinator. This partnership strengthens Asheville GreenWorks’ capacity to protect local ecosystems and engage the community in long-term climate action.

“Pine Gate Renewables is proud to partner with Asheville GreenWorks in their mission to create a more sustainable Western North Carolina. We believe in the power of community and building a better tomorrow, so we’re excited to support these programs through funding and by putting our hands to work.”
Ben Catt, CEO, Pine Gate Renewables

“We’re incredibly grateful to Pine Gate Renewables for their generous and hands-on support of our work. Partnerships like this make it possible for Asheville GreenWorks to grow our impact and meet the urgent needs of our community. Pine Gate is setting a powerful example of what local businesses can do when they invest in environmental resilience and community well-being.”AJ Hardie, Executive Director, Asheville GreenWorks

About the Programs Supported by Pine Gate Renewables

Urban Forestry
GreenWorks’ Urban Forestry Program promotes environmental sustainability and climate resilience through tree planting and maintenance. Native tree giveaways help residents reduce heat, erosion, air pollution, and flooding in their neighborhoods. With a goal of planting 50,000 trees by 2040, the program is revitalizing Asheville’s urban canopy and supporting pollinator habitats.

Litter Prevention
Better known as GreenWorks’ Rivers and Roads Program, overseen by our Watershed Outreach Coordinator, this program mobilizes hundreds of volunteers to remove tens of thousands of pounds of litter from public roadways and waterways annually. These cleanups protect wildlife, improve local water quality, and prevent trash from reaching the ocean. The Watershed Outreach Coordinator also oversees projects such as the StreamKeeper Program, do-it-yourself clean-ups, and the installation of Trash Trout devices that intercept litter before it enters waterways. With Pine Gate’s support, this role is transitioning to a permanent, full-time to expand outreach and environmental impact.
