Day One: Conference at the Lioncrest
Come join us at beautiful Lioncrest on the Biltmore Estate at the height of the Fall Color where Forestry in America had its beginnings.
This is a very important gathering for the emerging North Carolina Urban Forest Products Industry that has been forming over the last couple of years in the Asheville area. This group will link to the nationwide Urban Forest Products Alliance.
Urban forest product business owners, urban foresters, arborists, educators, urban forest researchers, and advocates are invited to meet for the first time to promote the further growth and development of this industry in North Carolina and to set an agenda for the formation of the Urban Forest Products Association of North Carolina.
We have put together a fantastic collection of speakers from across the nation who represent top leaders in urban wood utilization. Speakers will be present to discuss the industry’s most critical issues including new business formation, certification of urban forest products, and how community and governmental organizations can support the further development of the industry throughout North Carolina.
If you have any interest in North Carolina’s urban forests and how trees from those forests are used once they come down then this conference is a must-attend event.
Dear Tree Friends,
Asheville GreenWorks is partnering with the North Carolina Forest Service, the North Carolina Urban Forest Council and Biltmore Estate to invite you to a first ever gathering.
The first day will be an all day conference at Lioncrest on the Biltmore Estate featuring six speakers who will discuss the basic issues and questions that are most important to effectively organizing an urban forest products alliance.
The second day will be an open-to-the-public show at the Asheville Visitor Center/Chamber of Commerce that will demonstrate the range of values of the highest and best use of urban trees and how they are processed from logs to lumber to finished products. Urban wood products will be on display and for sale, and wood crafters are invited to demonstrate their work.
I am proud to host this conference at Biltmore and will look forward to seeing you join us.
Bill Hascher, Arborist Manager, The Biltmore Company

Day Two: Portable Wood Mill Demonstration and Beautiful Wood Products on Display

Table and chairs by Brian Boggs
Saturday, October 22, 9AM to 4PM in the Asheville Visitor Center/Chamber of Commerce parking lot, 33 Montford Avenue
The second day of the conference will feature wood being put to work! Everyone is invited to watch demonstrations, admire the beautiful wood crafts and learn from the experts.
Learn from the artisans the history of each piece and where the wood came from.
The Asheville Chamber is graciously hosting a Wood Day in their lower parking lot so we can show the general public how urban wood can be processed into useful products and not just taken to the landfill or chip mill. This is a growing industry that the local economy will benefit from.
See amazing urban wood products from Asheville and across Western North Carolina.
Portable wood mills will be operating during this time.
This event is open to the public at no cost.
Sponsored by the North Carolina Forest Service and the North Carolina Urban Forest Council
